HaysMac is an award winning firm of chartered accountants and tax advisors, with almost 40 partners and over 500 staff, providing advice to entrepreneurs, fast-growing and owner-managed businesses, charities and not for profit organisations across the UK and internationally.
The role and responsibilities
You will be a member of an established team focusing on providing VAT advice primarily to Financial Services clients – although on occasion you may be involved in other sectors for example where partial exemption experience is required. You will need to be a self-starter, able to work independently in carrying out reviews and to manage a portfolio, client facing, show willingness to work as part of a team, be willing to undertake Business Development activities and be able to meet deadlines. The work involves almost exclusively consultancy work and practice development.
On the advisory side, it will include responding to ad hoc queries from clients and colleagues across the entire client base, supporting more senior colleagues at meetings and with follow up work, and carrying out reviews and due diligence and other advisory work independently of colleagues.
A good standard of technical knowledge and FS sector experience is sought, but of equal importance is the ability to convey that knowledge clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally, to mould advice to the needs and levels if each client and to be able to understand clients’ explanations. Speed and accuracy and the ability to reach conclusions and make recommendations are also important.
