The hospitality industry has reopened, but how are businesses performing on their road to recovery? haysmacintyre’s third snapshot survey tracks developments in sector sentiment during the recovery.
Our findings revealed that although a significant number of businesses have already returned to a normal level of trading and have had a positive few months, there are still challenges facing the sector. Respondents have found staff recruitment to be the most significant current challenge, and expect wage costs to be the most significant lasting impact of the pandemic on the sector.
However, operators are conscious that there are a number of new challenges facing them from 1 April 2022. These include:
- The end of the rent moratorium
- An increase of VAT rate from 12.5% to 20%
- Further increases to the National Living Wage
