This year, we celebrated Black History Month a little differently – with an inspiring panel discussion featuring two incredible guest speakers, Marcia Lewis and Vwairé Obukohwo, centred around the theme ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’.
The theme recognised the resilience, strength, and drive for progress within the Black community, honouring both historical contributions and the ongoing pursuit of empowerment, unity, and change.
Marcia Lewis, Founder and CEO of the No1Fan.club, supports and empowers families navigating their children’s journeys in football. With a Master’s in Football Business and as a FIFA-licensed agent, she shared her valuable experiences of raising her son in the football world and the vital role of community in overcoming challenges.
Vwairé Obukohwo, an athlete with British Rowing and Athlete Mentor for the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, reflected on her journey as a Black woman in a predominantly white sport, speaking candidly about the obstacles she’s faced, the lessons learned, and how embracing difference can fuel both progress and excellence.
The panel discussion left us inspired and motivated to continue creating spaces that celebrate diversity, amplify Black voices, and champion inclusion – not just during Black History Month, but all year round.
